Our Founder Administrator is DR. R. RameshWhose dream and passion was to establish an Eye Hospital, which will fulfil the needs of public in all aspects. Our mission is to ERADICATING NEEDLESS BLINDNESS.

Dr. R. Ramesh and Dr. R. MeenaKumari - Chief Ophthalmologists were trained in Aravind Eye Hospital. They were driven by the inspiration to work spiritually and with compassion for the society.

Mahathma Eye Hospital is one of the landmark next to rock fort in the city of Tiruchirappalli. The MOTO of Mahathma Eye Hospital isAAA i.e. AVAILABILITY, AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY. Its achievement is its ability to give uniform best eye care to patients of all socio-economic status. This was made possible by catering to large volume of population.

Though this trust is created and constituted by Mahathma Eye Hospital on 25th February 2013 as a public trust for the purpose of promoting a public charitable medical institution for treatment of all kinds of illness and education, training, research related to treatment of eye, we are proud to say that we were already doing huge social activities from 1997 onwards.

The following nine projects will be undertaken for implementation for the benefit of the society and titled as “NAVARASA KANNOLI THITTAM”.

Kanmaniyan Kan Paadhugappu Thittam (School Screening)

This is our school screening programme. The aim of this programme is to save the precious eyes of small children who steal our heart with their small fun activities. Through Mahathma Eye Vision and Research Institute’s Kanmaniyin Kan Paadhugappu Thittam, we reach too many schools and test the kids’ vision by conducting the following tests.

KallooriPookkalin Kannoli Thittam (College Screening)

Our college days give us never ending friendship and many things to remember forever. As Dr. Abdul Kalam said,the rise of our youth will make our country mighty and powerful. ICDS (Anganwadi Workers Eye Screening Programme)

Whatever we teach to the kids aged between one and five, it will remain forever like a nail in the green tree. The first teacher who teaches good manners and lessons to these kids is the anganwadi worker. The former chief minister, Perunthalaivar Kamarajar, introduced Noon meal programme for the hungry poor children. The noon meal workers feed the hungry school children like a mother. Senior Citizen Eye Care Programme

It is a boon to have elderly in our home They are filled with all the news and information within them. For the wellbeing of such elder people, we have this Senior Citizen Eye Care Programme. Through this programme, we conduct required eye check-ups by going to the old age home, mercy home and orphanage and treat them.

Women Self Help Groups Eye Care Programme

Self-help is the best help. According to this statement, the women, who are not financially indepentent, join in a group like ‘honey bees’ and through small savings like ‘small drops make an ocean’, save themselves and their families. As Bharathiar said, ‘ feel proud to be born as a woman’, those special women’s eyes should be protected. With this in mind, Mahathma Eye Vision and Research Institute’s Women Self Help Groups Eye Care Programme works in protecting such women’s eyes. Like the proverb ‘the growth of a nation depends on the growth of a house’, we are proud to help protecting these women’s eyes.

Mahathma Eye Hospital aims to provide quality eye service to all people irrespective of religion and social status.

We concentrate more on community service with the great support of our doctors and employees and working hard towards eradicating blindness.

We have introduced various schemes since 1997 that benefits and address all age group people. Every facet of the Institution – Patient Services, Community Services, Research and Teaching & Training – has shown tremendous progress, setting major milestones in Tamilnadu.
