FROM CHAIRMAN'S DESK

Dr. Meena and I both gained our foundational experience at Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. In 1997, under strong mentorship, we established a set of core values that have guided our journey ever since. One principle was very clear to us — we wanted our life’s work, and that of future generations, to be strongly oriented toward excellence in technology, advanced techniques, and academics.

At the same time, we were equally committed to serving the poor and the underprivileged, striving to eliminate avoidable blindness until poverty itself is reduced in society. We understood that balancing high-end technology with affordable care for the needy can seem like mixing oil and water. Nevertheless, we chose to take that bold step.

Over the past 30 years, we have continued our journey in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, South India, witnessing the fulfilment of our vision and aspirations.

Mahathma Eye Hospital Private Limited is not only compassionate in patient care but also consistently upgrades its technology and surgical techniques across all ophthalmic specialties, including Cataract, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Vitreoretinal Services, Glaucoma, Cornea, Orthoptics, and Occuloplasty. As medical equipment and instruments often become obsolete within 3–4 years, we ensure timely updates to remain at the forefront of modern eye care.

Mahathma offers fellowship programs in various sub-specialties of ophthalmology. We aim to expand across all ophthalmic sub-specialties and achieve academic excellence through journal publications and presentations at national and international conferences. At the same time, we provide high-quality clinical services while actively focusing on research and development.

All our dreams have materialised and rest will also materialise

FROM THE DESK OF MEDICAL DIRECTOR

Hi, I’m Dr. Meena. Fortunately, my dreams and passion align with those of Dr. Ramesh. I have greatly enjoyed adopting new technologies and serving the needy community in eradicating avoidable blindness. I have also been a source of inspiration for the paramedical staff here.

I have taken the initiative to train young women after their schooling (+2) in various specialties as ophthalmic technicians, such as Refraction, Retina, Contact Lens, Low Vision Aids, Orthoptics and Operation Theatre Assistance. This has helped build strong infrastructure through well-trained human resources in the form of Ophthalmic Assistants who support various specialty ophthalmology clinics.

In addition, I have contributed to structuring and strengthening our outreach programs.
My future ambition is to expand the horizons of Mahathma Eye Hospital Private Limited in the field of academics and to transform Mahathma Eye Hospital Private Limited into a recognized educational institute.

All ophthalmologists working with Dr. Ramesh and Dr. Meena at Mahathma Eye Hospital Private Limited are affectionately called “MAHATHMITES”. Our own children have also chosen ophthalmology as their career.

We are deeply aware of our responsibility to train young ophthalmologists in modern techniques and technology. We consciously strive to serve as good mentors, guiding them to uphold the nobility and ethics of this profession. Mahathma Eye Hospital Private Limited is committed to identifying talented and aspiring young ophthalmologists and helping them realize their professional ambitions.

Since ophthalmology can be an expensive field, even skilled young surgeons often face limitations. Our goal is to identify such promising ophthalmologists and create meaningful opportunities for them to grow and succeed.
