Near vision is due to the accommodation power of natural lens. Accommodation is a mechanism by which eye changes focus distance to near vision produced by change in lens shape. After the removal of the natural lens in cataract surgery, the artificial lens placed does not accommodate, hence the patient has to be given near vision glasses.
